The program, with a home base on the campus of the historically women’s college Bay Path, features small class sizes, a supportive community, close faculty mentoring, internship opportunities, and a summer creative writing field seminar in Ireland.
It offers core courses in memoir, narrative journalism, and the personal essay, and includes electives in food and travel writing; writing about culture, race, and identity; health, narrative medicine, and social justice writing; family histories; nature and environmental writing; personal profile writing; and contemporary women’s stories. Professional tracks in publishing, teaching creative writing, and narrative medicine are also available, as well as a year-long thesis course. Students in the narrative medicine track earn a Certificate in Narrative Medicine along with the MFA in Creative Nonfiction for the same number of credits.
The MFA runs an online literary journal, Multiplicity Magazine, which launched in the spring of 2020. Part-time options available.
